After two long years, hardcore Destiny 2 fans finally solved the Warmind Rasputin Alternate Reality Game (ARG) puzzle. Bungie Entertainment developed the Rasputin Chamber Puzzle ARG to promote the release of the Warmind expansion in May 2018. Destiny 2 players noticed mysterious symbols around Rasputin’s chamber that appeared to be a series of key nodes. Once players realized the symbols were somehow related to each other, the community excitedly worked to solve the puzzle.
The Rasputin Chamber puzzle features six symbols spread across different regions of the chamber. Deciphering the symbols unlocks three cipher keys, which reveal a real-world location. The mystery has long since been solved, and the site shown to be in New York. The true-life exotic hunt leads to a fantastic Valkyrie spear. However, the puzzle was solved through brute force and trial-and-error by the Destiny community. While the mystery was considered “solved,” the correct answer was never revealed. Furthermore, because the chamber puzzle was deemed to be complete, the community lost interest in solving the riddle.
According to IGN, Destiny 2 players known as Javano and Bachmanetti deciphered the missing piece of the puzzle. The pair discovered how to identify the final cipher titled, “MECHANIZED.” In Javano’s Twitter post, he noted that they solved the puzzle by starting with one clue - a diamond icon. Their immediate thought was that the symbol was somehow related to a weapon. Following that line of reasoning, the pair figured the emblem might have been linked to the Sleeper Stimulant, which is a Rasputin pattern exotic weapon released during the Warmind expansion.
It dawned on Bachmanetti, that the relationship between the diamond symbol and the Sleeper Stimulant was, quite literally, right in front of their face. It turns out, the weapon’s reticle is identical to the chamber’s emblem. Then, he made a connection between a warning sign on a wall in one of the Martian environments. Quickly after, Bachmanetti ecstatically hopped into the game to test his theory. He aligned the Sleeper Stimulant’s reticle to a diamond symbol on the warning sign. He found that the calibration lines highlighted individual letters. After some quick rearranging, the notes were found to spell the word “MECHANIZED.”
While Rasputin’s puzzle was solved several years ago, the pair properly cracking the code brings a sense of closure to the Destiny 2 community. Javano and Bachmanetti may not receive an award for solving the puzzle now, but they’ve gained immense respect from the community. Destiny 2 is currently playable on all PC global regions and consoles.
