Today, Dead by Daylight brings the next major update, Reckoning, to the table. This is sure to please fans of the 4-on-1 co-op horror survival game by Behaviour Interactive. While the game generally receives middling marks across the board, that hasn’t stopped it from accumulating a legion of dedicated fans eager to slash their friends to bits - or to avoid said slashing.
The concept of Dead by Daylight is simple: one player is the killer and the other four are survivors attempting to avoid being his or her or its victim. Dead by Daylight killers have different powers, like the Hag, who can lay traps for her prey and the Doctor, who can make his would-be victims hallucinate and scream in terror, helping him track them down. Players will also recognize some Dead by Daylight survivors like part of the cast of Stranger Things and Evil Dead’s Ash Williams. As survivors and killers level up, they gain perks that they can eventually teach to their allies.
Behaviour Interactive has launched its Dead by Daylight Tome II update, also known as Reckoning. “Tomes” in Dead by Daylight are effectively seasons, with each one lasting a set number of days (70 in the case of Tome I). Similar to Battle Pass systems in Fortnite and other games, players earn Rift Points which they can redeem for cosmetic items so they can outfit their favorite psychopath with as much bling as they can get. The update includes new cosmetics and background stories for the Doctor, the Spirit, David King, and Jane Romero as well as outfits for the Clown and Feng Min created by the community, a new Lunar New Year-themed outfit for survivor Jake Park, and a wealth of new challenges. The Dead by Daylight Reckoning update introduces a new feature called the Compendium. This allows players to continue to enjoy Tome 1. However, players will not earn Rift Points from the first season’s content anymore. So they will want to stick to Tome II content if they want to farm cosmetics from the new season. Players will still be able to earn blood points to level their Dead by Daylight characters as well as lore from Tome I content. Until January 28, Behaviour Interactive is offering a 30% discount on Tome II characters.
The latest Dead by Daylight update promises to bring big changes to the game. The new cosmetics look impressive and that players can go back and complete the previous Tome’s content is a huge boon even if they can’t earn Rift Points from it. While similar games like Friday the 13th exist, Dead by Daylight provides one of the fullest rosters and most variety among them. While it isn’t the most polished game in existence, Dead by Daylight is a great horror game. It will be interesting to see how Behaviour Interactive expands on it as time goes on.
