DC Universe renews Titans for season 3, announcing the next season of the Teen Titans-inspired show will release in 2020. When DC Universe originally launched on Batman Day 2018, the streamer had only legacy content ranging across the comics, TV and film mediums. Then, their flagship original live-action series Titans premiered not too long after, and the streaming service was confident in the young show. Even before season 1 premiered on DC Universe, the company renewed Titans for season 2, which is currently ongoing.
The show follows the members of the Teen Titans team from the DC Comics, including Dick Grayson aka Robin (Brenton Thwaites), Kory Anders aka Starfire (Anna Diop), Gar Logan aka Beast Boy (Ryan Potter) and Rachel Roth aka Raven (Teagan Croft). Additionally, Titans has also introduced a number of other DC characters, like Hawk (Alan Ritchson), Dove (Minka Kelly) and Wonder Girl (Conor Leslie) in season 1, with Superboy (Joshua Orpin), Aqualad (Drew Van Acker) and Deathstroke (Esai Morales) appearing in season 2. Now, DC Universe has confirmed that fans will be able to follow the Titans’ adventures for at least another season.
DC Universe and Warner Bros. Television announced today that Titans season 3 is officially happening, with the renewal coming alongside the announcement that the series will return in Fall 2020. See their tweet below.
It’s unclear as of yet what Titans season 3 will entail, since season 2 is still ongoing. We know that Titans is introducing Dick Grayson’s Nightwing persona, with the latest episode revealing what inspires the new name and costume. Photos and videos from the Titans season 2 set revealed the Nightwing costume already, so it will no doubt debut before or in the finale. Plus, although the Titans team members are currently scattered in the wake of Dick revealing he had lied about what happened with Deathstroke and Jericho (Chella Man) five years prior, the superheroes will certainly find a way back to each other. However, who exactly will be officially on the Titans team, and continue into season 3, remains to be seen.
While Titans being renewed for season 3 confirms Warner Bros. TV and DC Universe’s continued confidence in their flagship original series, the streaming service has plenty more to offer with additional upcoming live-action and animated series. After the Titans season 2 finale, the adult Harley Quinn animated show premieres, which will be followed by Doom Patrol season 2 and the upcoming Stargirl series. The streamer did cancel Swamp Thing after season 1, so DC Universe has experienced some growing pains in its first year, but Titans will remain a mainstay of the DC-focused subscription service.
