It doesn’t appear that the Legion of Doom will be forming anytime soon on the big screen. As Warner Bros. and DC continue forward with the DC movie universe, they are doing so with everything that’s come before. Walter Hamada now is in charge of DC Films and their long-term future and has made his presence felt already. His work on Shazam! helped get him the job and he’s since made a variety of moves to start to finalize his vision.

One of the ideas that appeared to be a big focus prior to his arrival was the Legion of Doom. Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello) teased as much at the end of Justice League, and upcoming movies will introduce other regular members. However, any plans for the super villain team to assemble and fight DC’s heroes are rumored to have been pushed back.

Revenge of the Fans reports that Hamada has shelved the idea of Legion of Doom entirely. This team was reportedly going to be built up as the reason for another major crossover, but that will no longer happen, at least not anytime soon. Hamada is focused on making each movie/franchise successful and will then start to think about a crossover once that happens. If Legion of Doom remains the goal of that crossover, then it’s still several years away from happening.

Although DC never confirmed plans that they were building towards a Legion of Doom vs Justice League movie, that was the rumor. The idea was that they were going to continue to integrate characters who could be involved in the villain ensemble. They already have Lex and Deathstroke, and future possible members will soon debut. Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) will be introduced in Aquaman later this year and isn’t a stranger to super villain teams in the comics. Next year, Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong) or Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) could be teased as future members, along with Cheetah (Kristen Wiig) after her role in Wonder Woman 1984.

We previously gave our predictions on how DC could build the Legion of Doom up to become a formidable opponent for their heroes. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards right now and it’s understandable why. The most successful film in this universe is Wonder Woman, which was a largely standalone and heartfelt story. That looks to be the blueprint for the future of DC films as of right now, especially with Matt Reeves likely rebooting Batman with a younger actor. DC can take this slow and then when the time comes announce the Legion of Doom is coming.
